I have to share a “God is cool” moment that happened to me yesterday! I was walking up to my childrens’ school, when I overheard a lady talking on her cell phone about someone needing a double stroller. I have a double stroller from when my kids were young & I’ve been looking for a way to get rid of some of this baby stuff since Dwight & I are done having kids (although he needs to be convinced to make that permanant, if you know what I mean!!!) Anyway…..I walked inside the building & waited for her to finish her conversation & all the while i had this running conversation in my head about whether or not it would be rude for me to talk to her about overhearing her phone conversation. I decided that if someone was in need, then I don’t care if I’m being a little rude or not. So when she hung up, I went back outside & explained what I had overheard & told her that I had a double stroller to give away. She gave me this look like “I can’t believe it” and proceeded to tell me about why she needed the stroller. This lady works for Catholic Charities & she has a case where the family has NO car. They have 2 small children & the mom walks everywhere with them, hence the need for a double stroller. I also told her that I would probably end up bringing some more baby stuff too & she was thrilled. I would much rather give something away to someone who can REALLY use it rather than selling it or giving it to Goodwill (where people still have to pay money for it).
God is so cool. Who thought evesdropping (though not on purpose) could be a GOOD thing? God did! He brought the situation together & made it ripe for a good deed, but I still had to decide to act. I’m not saying that to get accolades for myself, but as a reminder that God will put stuff in front of us & we need to be aware of the Spirit’s voice nudging us into action. As my kids learned in a Bible class not too long ago “When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them.”
******UPDATE********
God is STILL cool, but I wasn’t able to give the stroller to Catholic Charities. Here’s why:
I went up to my attic to get the stroller out & it wasn’t there! I called one friend who I had lent it to, but they had returned it. I called another friend & she told me a most interesting tale about the stoller that we’ll call “ Home For A Bunny”. It seems that my friend had stored the fated stroller in her garage & a baby bunny thought that it looked like a good home, not to mention an awesome place to poop. Ugh. That being said, my friend wisely put the stroller on the curb for the garbageman to take away. However, someone else happened upon the stroller & I guess decided that all that rabbit poop could be cleaned (or they got a big surprise when they got the stroller home!) Anyway….I’m a little bummed, but at least the bunny was happy
AND I still made a valuable contact & I will probably go bring some other baby stuff there anyway. Sometimes things just don’t go as planned!

Regarding eavesdropping… It’s almost impossible NOT to these days! The other day at the grocery store I heard a mom talking to her daughter, Courtney very LOUDLY… Anyway, I’ll spare you the details. Wish she would’ve spared me! But the bottom line is that I was annoyed with her & realized that it affected the way I looked at her. So I MADE MYSELF smile at her when we met on an aisle and we both were in a much better mood after that!
And I think you got a LOT from the situation (even though you didn’t necessarily get the desired outcome). I think it reinforced your urge to act on a situation and God will DEFINITELY give you more opportunities to use that.
YAY for you!
