One Step Closer

Posted by: beaner927 on: November 17, 2006

I was finally contacted by “the Company” for an interview on Monday!!!!! This will be for the new training class that starts January 15th. Getting this job would be a great way to start the New Year. In the meantime, I’ve been helping out a friend from church at her shop, so I’ve been able to make a little bit of money while waiting for the process to unfold.

I’m starting to feel a little bit of Holiday Anxiety as Thanksgiving & Christmas are right around the corner. I think we’re going to put up some decorations this weekend & maybe even our tree too! I’m trying to make plans for the family Christmas Card picture, we’ll be traveling up to Chicago for a couple days after Thanksgiving for my Grandma & my cousin’s birthdays, still trying to solidify our Christmas travel plans to N.C., including what to do with the dog, and I’m already being asked for lists for my family as to what my kids want for Christmas. I really struggle with wanting to like this season more, but it’s such a hassle sometimes as an adult. Every Christmas season I try to spend at least one night of relaxation with all the lights out except the Christmas Tree, just laying on the couch listening to Christmas music. A bottle glass of wine helps too!

Speaking of wine….I’ve been reading in the Book of John & it still strikes me that Jesus’ first miracle is to change water into wine. Jesus was known for such “big” miracles like raising the dead & healing the lame….why would his first miracle be to change some water into wine? Then it hit me – it was because He was asked to. Most of Jesus’ miracles come as a result of someone asking Him to help. I don’t recall Jesus turning someone down when they asked in faith, yet I know that sometimes Jesus might be asking us to wait. When the world saw Lazarus as a stinky, rotten 4-day old corpse, Jesus brought new life for His glory. Anyway…I don’t know where I was going with this, but I think it had something to do with waiting for God.

OK – So here’s the tie-in :)     If some people are willing to wait in line for days for a stinkin’ PS3, (or wait for months for a job!)  just how long are you willing to wait for God’s good gifts?  How long do we wait on God before we start trying to just do it ourselves? There are things in my life that I’m still waiting on…..some hurts that I’m still waiting on God to heal…….how long???

“Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.” Psalm 27:14

I’ve really been struggling with that same question — how long do I wait for God to bring me a husband before I just totally give up? And I do love that verse – it is one the verses I cling to.

Good reminder that we may not receive if we do not ask. Also, that asking does not always mean immediate receiving, that everything should be within God’s will.

It would be fabulous if you worked at “the Company”!

In some cases, I applaud the people waiting in line for the stinkin’ PS3-I admire people that are willing to go the extra mile to get what they desire. I imagine a child who receives one for Christmas would be thrilled to know what measures were gone through so that they could receive one.

The subject of your post has caused me a great deal of confusion over the years. While I agree that we need to wait on God for some things, I can’t help but think that waiting can become an excuse for some who just aren’t willing to go the extra mile that God may be calling them to go.

I’m reminded of a quote I keep in my bible-

“The belief that God will do everything for man is as untennable as the belief that man can do everything for himself. It too is based on a lack of faith. We must learn that to expect God to do everything while we do nothing, is not faith, but superstition.”
-Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Allen,

There are things we CAN do & SHOULD be doing & then there are those things that can ONLY be done by the Lord, and thus, we must wait on His timing. I’m waiting on some things that I cannot do for myself – “my help is in the name of the Lord”

I understand what you’re saying. I’m just talking about those times when we can do something but choose not to, that’s all.

I’ve been over here several times to comment on this post. Once the phone rang, another time a kid rang, a third time the comment box wouldn’t pop up…

After all this waiting I forgot what I was going to say. :)

I hope the job works out and that you find what God has for you to do today (each day).

Have a great Thanksgiving.
