Taking a Shot

Dwight & I had a good talk last night while watching ‘You’re the One That I Want’ ( you know, the show where they’re picking the ‘Grease’ stars for Broadway) Anyway…..we were just talking about singing and Musical Theatre. I guess Dwight & I are both feeling the urge to “perform” in some way. I think Dwight’s path will lead him to the Theatre Stage & my path will lead me be a Rock Goddess! ;)   Actually……I decided to buy a guitar! That way I can accompany myself & figure out the “sound” of my voice. See, when I sing, I’m usually copying the sound of the singer. When I sing ZOE music, I try to sound like Sheryl (as impossible as that may be!) and when I’m singing with Evanescence, I try to sound like Amy Lee. The problem is – I don’t have a “sound” of my own.  (You can make your own Spiritual Application at this point!) I guess I’m taking a shot at a dream here, but what the hey, right? I have a huge mountain to climb first, but I’m going to at least start taking steps in the right direction.

I know what you mean… I find myself being like that in many ways, not just singing. Although being an alto, there aren’t too many out there to copy! (I guess I could be an Amy Westerman-wannabe.)

But speaking of “You’re the One I Want,” I am so glad I don’t have to make the decision… it won’t be an easy one. Part of me wants Jason Celaya to win, just because his brother used to be our neighbor.

Actually, you do have your own sound–you just don’t recognize it. I heard it last night with the lighter version of the descant for Sunday’s second Communion song! And, BTW, it’s a a very pretty sound.
